The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and state CM Nitish Kumar over the chargesheet filed against Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav in the Land-For-Job scam and said that both of them are blatantly shielding the corrupt. Addressing the reporters, Bihar Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha said that there is an undeclared emergency in the state and the voice of the Opposition is being stifled.

"Both Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar are blatantly shielding the corrupt. Now, there is an undeclared emergency in the (Bihar) Assembly. Opposition's voice is being stifled," Sinha said, as quoted by the news agency PTI.

Speaking on the chargesheet filed against him in the case, Tejashwi Yadav said that the Opposition did not protest when he was taking oath as the Deputy CM of the state and now they are protesting. "The first chargesheet was filed against me in 2017, and now it is 2023, only god knows what happened in 6 years. When I was taking oath as Deputy CM, they (BJP) did not protest, now they are protesting (on the chargesheet)," Tejashwi Yadav said, as quoted by ANI.

Opposition MLAs staged protest inside Bihar Assembly against Tejashwi Yadav. During the protest, a BJP MLA reportedly raised a chair against the Speaker, ANI reported.

CBI had registered a case on May 18, 2022, against Lalu Prasad Yadav and 15 others including his wife, two daughters and unknown public servants and private persons. It was alleged that the then Union Minister of Railways during the period 2004-2009 had obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members etc. in lieu of appointment of Substitutes in Group “D” Post in different Zones of Railways.
