New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday again questioned the BJP government at the Centre for not seeking the resignation of Union Minister of State Ajay Misra Teni whose son Ashish Misra is the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case.
While addressing a rally in Bilaspur, Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said, "A Prime Minister has a moral responsibility towards the nation and it is his dharma to fulfil this responsibility. This dharma is above every dharma. Whichever politician, Prime Minister or government fails to do this, must be ignored."
"Today, that man has got bail and soon, he would be roaming around openly, the man who mowed you down. But whom did the government save? Did it save the farmers? Where were the police and the administration when farmers were killed," the Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi asked.
She also hit out at police inefficiency and said that they were nowhere to be seen when the Lakhimpuri Kheri incident took place but when the Congress party decided to meet the family of the victims the entire state administration was pressed into action.
The Allahabad high court on Thursday granted bail to Ashish Misra and raised doubts on the police investigation into the violence that took place on October 3, in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed. Misra is accused of running over a group of protesting farmers by his Thar vehicle.
About ten days after the incident , Ashish Misra was arrested by the police. Misra's bail plea was rejected by the lower court after which he appealed in the High Court
