Kolkata fire: A major fire broke out inside a chemical storage facility near Howrah bridge in the Kolkata on Saturday morning. As many 20 fire brigades have been pressed into service to douse the fire at the city in India's eastern state West Bengal. It was reported that the fire broke out at around 2 am, while as of now, there has been no reports of injuries or casualties. The nearby residential areas have been evacuated and people shifted to safe places as dense smoke has engulfed the nearby areas, local media reports said.

Debtanu Bose, fire officer on fire at chemical godown in Kolkata today said,"no casualty reported & 25 fire tenders present. Fire is yet to be controlled. We're unable to make an entry inside the building, roof in the middle part of the building has also collapsed."

The fire-fighting operations are currently underway.Traffic on Strand Bank Road has been diverted because of the fire.

"Due to a fire incident near Jagannath Ghat, Strand Bank Road is closed to traffic. Necessary diversion on," tweeted DCP, Traffic Kolkata.
