The Kolkata Customs Department has arrested a person who was smuggling cash to Bangkok. These dollar bills were hidden by him in sealed gutka sachets, news agency ANI reported.


The same amount in Indian rupees is Rs 32,95,240 (approximately 33 lakh). According to ANI, this individual was apprehended as he attempted to flee to Bangkok. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Kolkata Customs stopped the traveller on Sunday before his flight to Bangkok because the dollar notes were found in his checked luggage.


The Kolkata Customs took action based on input provided by Air Intelligence Unit operatives. The accused was arrested after an inquiry. $40,000 was discovered when his checked luggage was inspected.

Each bag contained two ten-dollar notes.


ANI has also released a video. “Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials of Kolkata Customs intercepted a passenger scheduled to depart to Bangkok yesterday. A search of his checked-in baggage resulted in the recovery of US $40O00 (worth over Rs 32 lakh) concealed inside Gutkha pouches: Customs,” the agency tweeted.






In the footage, a cop can be seen shredding the Shuddh Plus pan masala sachets. Dollar notes were stored in polythene-wrapped bundles with spices. A huge trolley bag adjacent was likewise totally filled with pouches.


The authorities have confiscated the money, so more information is required. The passenger has been arrested, and additional investigation and action are being taken.
