A Trinamool leader denied that its supporters were involved in it.

Rabi Saha was on his way to buy some good when TMC supporters surrounded him and started abusing him for contesting the polls. Saha is a Congress candidate for the KMC ward no 16.

In the complaint lodged with the police, Saha said when he protested, he was stripped down to his underwear and severely beaten up. He was later admitted to a state-run hospital.

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury condemned the incident.

"'Didicracy' in Bengal manifests its uncouth face where a Congress candidate is being stripped off and beaten black and blue in the full glare of public as he dared to contest the #KMCElection2021," he tweeted.

A senior Trinamool leader, who did not wish to be named, claimed that none of the party workers was involved in the incident. The police will investigate the matter and bring out the truth, he said.

Police are investigating the matter and the culprits will be caught soon, they said.

Sporadic instances of violence have been reported from all over West Bengal, including the hurling of crude bombs at two booths, marring the KMC elections.

Currently, the Counting of votes on all the 144 seats of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is underway from 8 am. The ruling party TMC is leading in 77 wards. While BJP is leading in 4, Congress in 2, Left in 2 and others are leading in 1 ward.
