New Delhi: In the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, children are falling ill due to influenza-like disease. A health official said on Sunday that 40-50 children are being admitted daily in the pediatric scare ward of Jalpaiguri district hospital for the past four days.


According to him, eighty to ninety percent of these children were tested for corona of which, one was found to be Covid positive. The child was sent to the Special Newborn Care Unit and is in isolation. All other children who are between the ages of one and five have influenza-like diseases with symptoms such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

A senior health official said malaria and dengue tests were also conducted. In addition, 45 additional beds have also been added. The new ward was also opened on Friday to deal better with the situation. Referring to a disease like influenza, the official said the case is not very complex and the discharge rate is high. The health official said pediatricians are investigating these cases. So far, it seems to be a case of a disease similar to seasonal influenza.


Corona situation in Bengal


Meanwhile, with 751 new covid-19 cases reported in West Bengal on Sunday, the total number of people infected in the state so far has increased to 15,56,908. In the last 24 hours, another 10 patients have died due to infection, taking the total number of pandemic deaths in the state to 18,577. According to a daily bulletin issued by the health department, 4 of the 10 people who died of an infection on Sunday are from the Nadia district.


However, the number of patients recovering was higher than the 751 new cases of infection, while 757 patients recovered completely on Sunday. So far, 15,30,144 patients have defeated the pandemic in the state. According to the bulletin, the new cases include 125 patients from Kolkata and 124 from North 24 Parganas. At present 8,187 patients are under treatment in West Bengal.
