New Delhi: Lok Sabha MP and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over inflation saying that “king is busy earning friends while people are suffering from inflation.” Rahul’s jibe came at a day when Congress is staging a protest ‘Halla Bol’ rally against the Centre over price rise.

“Today people have to think ten times even before buying what they need. Only the Prime Minister is responsible for these problems,” he alleged.

“We will keep adding voices against inflation, the king will have to listen,” the Wayanad MP added. He joined the party's march 'Mehangai Par Halla Bol' which is being staged at Ramlila Maidan.

Congress Workers Detained

Several Congress workers were detained on Sunday during the party’s protest against inflation. The workers were moving from Banga Bhawan to All India Congress Committee headquarters at Akbar Road when they were detained by the Delhi Police, reported news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police issued a clarification over the detention of Congress workers.

"A rally of Indian National Congress was scheduled at Ram Lila Maidan today. Party workers protesting elsewhere were taken in buses by Delhi Police & dropped at the designated place of protest." the Delhi Police said.

‘Nothing To Do With State Or 2024 Elections’

Senior Congress leader and party secretary general in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said that today's ‘Mehangai par Halla Bol’ has nothing to do with upcoming state elections or the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“ Today's Halla Bol rally has nothing to do with state elections or the 2024 election. It is a befitting message to the insensitive central govt as people of the country remain troubled by inflation and unemployment,” he said.
