New Delhi: In a major relief for Kerala, for the first time since August 9, the red alert has been withdrawn from all 14 districts of the state. Meanwhile, eleven districts are still on orange alert. Also, the water in most areas has started receding. However, the weather forecast for Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts predicted heavy rains at isolated places. The alert was issued for a number of districts except for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kasaragod after the murderous monsoon savaged the state of Kerala.

Kerala continues to remain on edge as the death toll since August 8 has climbed to 368. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook an aerial survey of the flood-hit areas after reports that it had been called off due to bad weather condition in Kerala.

Many are still stranded in their homes with no food and sheaths of water around them at various places in Alapuzha, Thrissur and Ernakulam districts. The India Meteorological Department on Saturday afternoon forecast that widespread rains, with heavy rains at isolated places, are likely to continue over Kerala following low-pressure area very likely to develop over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours.

The worst affected places include Aluva, Chalakudy, Chengannur, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta, where massive rescue operations were on as scores of persons were rescued.
