New Delhi: Kerala continued to report over 50,000 daily Covid cases with the state logging 52,199 new infections taking the tally of active cases to 3,77,823.


The southern state also reported 29 Covid-related fatalities over the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 56,100, according to the state health bulletin, ANI reported.  






Of the deaths, 29 were reported in the last 24 hours, 136 were those which occurred in the last few days but were not logged due to late receipt of documents and 335 were designated as Covid-19 deaths after receiving appeals based on the new guidelines of the Centre and the directions of the Supreme Court, the release said. 


As many as 41,715 cases were recovered from the infection, according to the state health bulletin.


Earlier on Tuesday, state Health Minister Veena George said that the rate of coronavirus propagation in the state has decreased from the first and second weeks of January, PTI reported.


Kerala recorded 51,887 cases on Tuesday, bringing the state's total caseload to 60,77,556. For the previous seven days, the state had an average test positive rate (TPR) of 47.6 per cent. 


"However, the rate of the spread came down to 71% in the fourth week of January and again decreased to 16% in the last week," George told the media here. The minister said currently, only 42.47% of ICU beds in the state are being used by both the COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. "At least 84% of the ventilators are vacant now," she was quoted by PTI in its report.
