New Delhi: A massive fire was doused in Gaffar market, Karol Bagh early Sunday morning, after 45 fire tenders were rushed to the site. A family of five people was trapped under the fire and were later rescued by the officials, the Delhi Fire Service told PTI. No casualties have been reported yet and the cause of the fire is not known.
The fire officer told ANI that they had been working since morning to douse the fire but since the paths are narrow they had been working from three lanes, so far they are not aware of any casualties but they are waiting to put out the fire completely let it cool and then carry out the search operations.
Meanwhile, Sunil Chaudhary, Dy Chief Fire Officer said, “We've been working since morning to douse it. The fire had spread in 3 lanes as paths are narrow here. We've 45 fire tenders on site. We don't know of any casualties yet. Will first douse fire, cool it & then carry out a search operation.”
Dharampal Arora, President of Karol Bagh wholesale footwear association, told ANI, “We got to know around 4:15 am that there was a fire. Several Fire tenders came half an hour later. The fire had been controlled but attempts were being made to douse it. We're requesting them to spray chemicals to extinguish it.”
After about a 7-hour operation, Divisional Fire Officer, SK Dua told ANI, that the fire has been brought under control, however, the internal fire continues. He said parts of buildings on fire are falling off, creating issues in dousing the fire. He said that there are about 200 firemen working on this blaze, he added, that 15-16 shops have been affected. He also informed that a family of 5 was stuck but they have been rescued and are safe.
