New Delhi: In a bid to save the coalition government in Karnataka from the political turbulence, Congress has come up with a new strategy. Senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar said on Saturday that all ministers in the party including him were ready to step aside from the cabinet and to make space for those MLAs who are dissatisfied. The final decision has been left for the party high command in this regard.
He said that the "decision" was arrived at a meeting of Congress ministers held a few days ago.
"We are loyal soldiers of the party. When Dharm Singh government was there I was kept out of the government for political reasons...in the last regime I was MLA for sixth term, Siddaramaiah could not include me in his cabinet (initially)," Shivakumar said.
Speaking to reporters here, he said this time it was a coalition government, and several legislators, who were senior to him- V Muniyappa, Ramalinga Reddy, Roshan Baig, H K Patil - are not part of the government.
"If need be, including myself, I'm telling you, we are ready to sacrifice for the party, for the workers, for legislators. Nothing is important. Party is important to us we want to bring back our party with flying colours," he said in response to a question.
When asked how many ministers were ready to resign, Shivakumar said “all of us.”
Shivakumar downplayed the reports of dissatisfaction withing the party and said there are no rebels. He asserted he is in touch with all the leaders.
When asked whether MLAs would return from the resort on Sunday, he did not give any direct response and said “Can they stay there itself?"
On Friday Congress had moved all of its MLAs to a resort to reportedly escape from BJP’s attempt of breaking the party.
A troubled political scenario has emerged in Karnataka ahead of Lok Sabha elections, where on one hand Congress and JDS are accusing BJP of buying out their MLAs, on the other hand, BJP is also accusing Congress-JDS of the same. Amid this tussle, Congress shifted its MLAs to a resort on Friday, while BJP MLAs were also residing in a luxury hotel in Gurugram until Saturday.
