New Delhi: The Karnataka government has announced that online classes will not be held for students from LKG to class V. Minister for primary and secondary education S Suresh Kumar has said that online classes cannot be held for the kids from LKG to class V. He also said that the strict action will be taken against the schools charging extra fees in the name of online classes. The government is also planning to extend the ban for even class 7.


According to a report by ANI, the minister said, “Education department has decided after taking suggestions from senior educational experts, physiatrists, private schools association representatives that online classes for students from LKG to class V should not be held. Strict action will be taken if the schools collect more fees in the name of online education.”

"For classes VI to X, a committee has been formed to submit recommendations on the pros and cons of online education. The committee will submit a report in 10 days," he added.

The Minister has also tweeted regarding the matter clearing the misconception that all online classes have been suspended. He said that no decision has been taken so far about online classes for class 7. He wrote in the tweet that it was a 'suggestion from few cabinet ministers as expressed in an informal discussion'.


Ever since the lockdown was imposed for curbing the spread of coronavirus in the country, schools and other educational institutes have depended on online classes to continue teaching students. The government has yet to give an official guideline for schools regarding online classes. The state has recorded a total of 6041 cases of coronavirus and at present has 3110 active cases. And so far, there have been 69 fatalities caused due to the virus.
