Bengaluru news: A road accident claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman after she was struck by a luxury car driven by a young man allegedly under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred near the Kengeri Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) on Mysuru Road.

The accused, identified as 20-year-old Dhanush, was reportedly driving a Mercedes Benz when he hit the victim, Sandhya AS, as she was crossing the road, reported PTI. While crossing the road, Sandhya was hit by the Mercedes Benz car which then rammed into a two-wheeler.

The impact of the collision also injured a biker, 23-year-old Syed Arbaz. Both victims were rushed to a hospital, where Sandhya was declared dead upon arrival, while Arbaz received treatment for minor injuries.

Following the accident, Dhanush reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by bystanders, who detained him until police arrived. A preliminary alcometer test conducted by the traffic police revealed that Dhanush’s blood alcohol content was 177 mg/100 ml, significantly exceeding the legal limit of 30 mg/100 ml, as per the report.

Police confirmed Dhanush's arrest and placed him in judicial custody. The accused is facing charges under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

"We have registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public road), 125 A (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused car driver at Kengeri traffic police station and arrested him," a traffic official said, as per PTI.

According to reports, Dhanush’s father, Parameshwar, owns the private bus company L V Travels and had recently purchased the luxury car, reported Indian Express.

Dhanush allegedly took the vehicle for a long drive on Mysuru Road after consuming alcohol with a friend at a mall, as reported by India Today.

This incident has raised concerns over reckless driving and has fueled calls for stricter enforcement of traffic safety regulations, especially concerning alcohol-impaired driving.
