New Delhi: A day after four Punjab-based terror suspects on their way to Telangana were detained in Haryana's Karnal with huge cache of explosives, the Ambala Police has joined the Karnal Police in investigating the case. The four accused Gurpreet, Amandeep, Parminder, and Bhupinder were arrested based on credible intelligence inputs received by the police. The Ambala Police has joined the probe in order to establish any link with an IED recovered in Ambala a few months ago.
While speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police, Ambala, Jahandeep Randhawa said, "We got the information that four terror suspects have been arrested in Karnal. An IED was recovered in Ambala a few months ago, so we are coordinating with Karnal Police and will carry out further investigation," reported news agency ANI.
All the four detained terror suspects are from Punjab and were produced before a local court from the CIA police station in Karnal.
This not the first incident of IED being recovered in Ambala or from its adjoining cities. In March this year, the local police had recovered one IED outside a private university on the Ambala-Chandigarh highway, which was later defused by a bomb disposal squad.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Karnal, the accused were in touch with a Pakistan-based man who asked them to drop arms and ammunition at Adilabad, Telangana.
"On credible intelligence input, four terror suspects including three belonging to Ferozepur, and one from Ludhiana detained near Bastara toll plaza. Explosives were recovered from them along with other arms and ammunition. Accused identified as Gurpreet, Amandeep Parminder, and Bhupinder," said SP Karnal, as reported by ANI.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that it is still not clear whether the four detained by Karnal police on Thursday were terrorists or just acting as help of terror organisations to transport explosives from one place to another.
