Kargil war hero Subedar Major Tsewang Murop, Vir Chakra lost his life in a road accident on Saturday night near Leh.

Fire and Fury Corps commander Lt Gen Rashim Bali met the army veteran's family including his father Naib Subedar Chering Mutop Ashok Chakra (Retd) to express condolences on behalf of the Indian Army, news agency ANI reported

A tweet on Fire and Fury Corps' official Twitter account read: "Fire and Fury Corps deeply regrets the sad demise of the Braveheart Sub Maj Tsewang Morup, Vir Chakra."

Meanwhile, serving and former army men have paid tributes to the deceased Vir Chakra awardee with their posts on social media.

The Kargil War was fought between May 8, 1999, and July 26, 1999, against Pakistani intruders who transgressed into Indian territory crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in the winter of 1998 and occupied fortified defences overlooking the NH 1A in Kargil's Drass and Batalik Sectors of Ladakh region with a nefarious aim of dominating all military and civil movement on the highway.

During the war, the Indian Army evicted Pakistani intruders and succeeded in recapturing Tiger Hill and other posts as a part of "Operation Vijay".
