To celebrate the historic "Kargil Vijay Diwas" on July 26, a Kargil Victory Flame (Torch) is being travsered through the Kashmir Valley to complete a journey of 400 Km in approximately 40 days. The flame, which reached Kashmir's Wuzur on Tuesday, will arrived in Kargil War Memorial on July 26, 2022. According to reports, the torch was received at the Northern portal of Navyug Tunnel and carried by soldiers of Chinar Corps. 


Wreaths were laid by the war veterans and serving soldiers in Wuzur district in remembrance of war heroes and Bravehearts of the Kargil War.


Nearly 110 school children, 95 ex-Servicemen and five war veterans turned up in large numbers to receive the 'Kargil victory flame'. The flame will be escorted to Khanabal on Wednesday. 


According to a Defence spokesperson, the flame reached Dharmund in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on July 19. It was flagged off from the northern Army Headquarters in earlier this month.


Even the Army officials at Dharmund celebrated the event with full zeal, the spokesman told news agency PTI, adding the event comprised arrival of Kargil victory flame at Government Middle School, Dharmund.


The process is a part of run-up events to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, which is celebrated every year on July 26 to pay tribute to soldiers who took part in the 1999 Kargil war.


The opening event exhibited a patriotic fervour among the children and remembered the bravehearts who make supreme sacrifice for the nation during the war. According to the Indian Army, the Kargil victory flame will traverse the force area till Jun 26 and further move to Drass in Ladakh where it will be merged with the eternal flame at ‘Kargil War Memorial’ on Jul 26.
