All Elected representatives in Kargil, including members of Hill Council, Panches, Sarpanches & Members of the municipal Committee have threatened Mass Resignation if their three-point demand is not met within a week.
There are thousands of Kargil residents stranded across the country due to the nationwide lockdown imposed in the country.
The representatives of all the organizations while addressing a press conference in Kargil demanded the evacuation of all stranded pilgrims who have completed their quarantine, evacuation of students who are stranded in other states and the complete opening of Zojilla Highway for both, passenger as well as supply carrying vehicles.
There are over a thousand pilgrims of Ladakh who are stranded in Iran and other states of India, many of whom have completed their quarantine period.
Haji Inayat, former Chairman of Kargil Autonomous Hill Council said that the pilgrims are stranded due to the lockdown and the administration has been accused of playing deaf to the demand of their repatriation. Besides the pilgrims, hundreds of students too are facing difficult times in reaching back to Ladakh.
The Zojilla road was opened for vehicular traffic on the 11th of April but the administration has put a complete ban on the movement of passengers on the road.
Ringzin Sempha, the Commissioner Secretary on Wednesday announced, "All the people entering Ladakh through Zojilla road will have to face a mandatory COVID19 check at Minimarg, and no passenger will be allowed to enter". He further added that even people walking over foot will be put into a mandatory quarantine of 28 days.
Ladakh has almost successfully managed to control the corona outbreak with only 2 active cases now. Two more people tested negative on Saturday, 11th April taking the number of recovered people to 12.
Ladakh had 15 active cases of Corona.
