New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot slammed Kapil Sibal for his criticism against Gandhis after Congress faced defeat in recent state Assembly elections.
“Kapil Sibal is not a person from the Congress culture. He is a renowned advocate who entered Congress. Sonia ji and Rahul ji have given him a lot of chances. It is not expected from a person who doesn’t know the ABC of Congress to give such statements,” said Gehlot as quoted by news agency ANI.
In the aftermath of Assembly elections in five states — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur — where Congress could not secure it win any of the states, Sibal had said that the Gandhis should step down from party leadership.
In an interview with the Indian Express, Sibal had also slammed the party’s decision to hold a brainstorming session. He also said that the party leadership was living in a “cuckoo land” if it was not aware of the reasons for the party’s decline even after eight years.

He said that he was neither surprised at Congress’ defeat in the Assembly elections nor at the decision of the Congress Working Committee to reaffirm faith in Sonia Gandhi's leadership.
Congress’ Lok Sabha whip Manickam Tagore also hit out at Sibal and accused him of speaking the language of BJP and RSS. “The RSS and the BJP want the Gandhis to be out of leadership positions in the party in order to kill the Congress party and destroy the Idea of India,” Tagore said.
