Kanhaiya Kumar Attacked: Congress candidate Kanhaiya Kumar was attacked on Friday during a campaign event in North East Delhi when a man, purportedly on the pretext of garlanding him, suddenly slapped him. The incident reportedly took place at the AAP office located in Swami Subramaniam Bhawan, involving individuals who had come to garland Kanhaiya Kumar after a meeting organised by Chhaya Sharma.
AAP councillor Chhaya Sharma informed the police about the incident. According to the police, they received a call about the incident at 6:53 pm on Friday. According to a complaint by Sharma, when she tried to intervene, attackers misbehaved and threatened her.
Following the garlanding, some individuals allegedly threw ink at Kanhaiya Kumar and attempted to attack him. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Kanhaiya Kumar, in a statement, alleged that the attack was orchestrated by his rival contender from the constituency, Manoj Tiwari. Kumar asserted that Tiwari, the incumbent Member of Parliament, is troubled by his growing popularity and thus resorted to sending individuals to attack him, reported PTI.
He said the public will give its answer to the violence with the vote on May 25.
