Tamil Nadu Elections 2021:  Veteran actor turned politician and chief of Makkal Needhi Miam Kamal Haasan has announced that he will fight the upcoming Tamil Nadu polls from the Coimbatore South constituency.  He made the announcement today while releasing his party's second list of candidates.

Earlier, the MNM chief announced the first list of 70 party candidates for the April 6 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, fielding, among others, a former associate of ex-President, the late APJ Abdul Kalam.

Remembering his late father, Haasan today expressed confidence that the people of the constituency would enable him to voice his views in the Assembly. "My father's dream was I should become an IAS officer and then enter politics. Though I could not realise his dream, my party comprises many (former) IAS officers. That is a proud moment for us," he told reporters.

V Ponraj, a scientist and former associate of the late Kalam, has been nominated from Anna Nagar in the city while former IAS officer Santhosh Babu is the party’s pick for Villivakkam in the metropolis.

Film lyricist Snehan was among the 70 candidates Haasan named for various constituencies across the state including Kancheepuram, Mettur, Erode, Coonoor, Avanashi (SC), Viralimalai, Bodinayakkanur, Nagercoil, and Colachel.

The MNM has agreed for an alliance with actor Sarathkumar's All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi and Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi. Both allies will contest in 40 seats each, while it looks out in 154 seats.
