New Delhi: Kalicharan Maharaj, who recently gave a controversial statement on Mahatma Gandhi during a Dharma Sansad in Raipur, has been arrested today. Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested near Bageshwari Dham in Khajuraho.
Raipur's SP Prashant Agarwal confirmed ABP News that the Hindu seer has been arrested for his alleged inflammatory speech derogating Mahatma Gandhi at 'Dharam Sansad'. A case is registered against him in Tikrapara Police Station of Raipur.
Kalicharan Maharaj has been arrested and charged with sedition. Chhattisgarh Police said during the investigation, on the basis of evidence, sections 153 A (1) (A), 153 B (1) (A), 295 A, 505 (1) (B) have also been included.
"Kalicharan Maharaj was staying in a rented accommodation near Bageshwar Dham, 25 km from Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. Raipur Police arrested him at 4 am today. By late evening, the police team will reach Raipur with the accused," said SP Raipur, Prashant Agarwal.
A case was registered on Sunday night at Tikrapara police station under Indian Penal Code sections 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes) and 294 (obscene acts), a police official told PTI.
Kalicharan Maharaj had spoken abusive words on Mahatma Gandhi in the Raipur Dharma Sansad. After that incident, on December 27, Kalicharan released a video of 8 minutes 51 seconds on his YouTube channel. In the video, Kalicharan had said that he has no regrets for abusing Gandhi.
