New Delhi: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday trained his guns against Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju alleging that he “threatened” members of judiciary to listen to him in return of favours else “face enquiries”.

“Our judiciary is being threatened. If the country’s Law Minister says ‘if you don’t do what we say, we will see to it’ what does this mean? Justice Chandrachud says that there’s no pressure on judiciary, but there is pressure,” said the Shiv Sena MP.

“How can the Law Minister sit where Babasaheb Ambedkar used to sit and threaten the judiciary? He says listen to us and we will make you the governor, send you to Lok Sabha, make you Chairman of a commission…take these benefits or face the enquiries,” Raut alleged.

He also cornered the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre saying the government has not been following the rules of the parliament or the judiciary.

“This government since it came to power did not follow the rules of the parliament, nor the judiciary and the constitution. They are interfering in CBI, Judiciary and the ED. They are taking all the law & order in their hands,” Raut said.

On Rahul Gandhi’s London speech, Raut said the former won’t apologise.

Notably, during an event recently, the law minister again criticised the collegium system of appointing judges, saying it was a result of the “misadventure” of the Congress party.

He also claimed that a few retired judges and some activists who are a “part of the anti-India gang” were trying to make the Indian judiciary to play the role of the Opposition.

The minister’s remarks were also criticised by Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

"A Law Minister talking like an Outlaw. A Minister of Justice propagating Injustice. If this is not a threat to freedom AFTER speech what is?" Ramesh tweeted.
