New Delhi: Pashupati Kumar Paras was on Monday notified as to the new parliamentary party leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) in Lok Sabha.
The development came hours after five LJP MPs met Lok Speaker Om Birla and handed over a letter to him regarding the removal of party chief Chirag Paswan from the position of Lok Sabha parliamentary party leader.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat Monday issued a revised list of floor leaders of parties in a notification in which Paras has been listed as the leader of Lok Janshakti Party.
Paras, who represents the Hajipur Lok Sabha seat in Bihar and is Chirag’s uncle, was earlier in the day unanimously elected as the LJP parliamentary leader in the Lok Sabha.
Commenting on the political development in the LJP, Paras said that the step has been taken to save the party, adding Chirag can continue to be a part of it.
“There are six MPs in our party. It was the desire of five MPs to save our party. So, I have not broken the party. I have saved it. Chirag Paswan is my nephew as well as the party's national president. I have no objection against him,” he said.

Paras also trashed rumours of joining Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United).
“This is 100 percent wrong. LJP is our party, the organisation is strong in Bihar. I was with NDA and I will continue to be a part of the alliance,” he said.
Chirag, the son of late party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan, was said to be having a tumultuous time managing the LJP ever since his father’s demise.
Moreover, the LJP was also battling the setback received in the Bihar Assembly elections last year.
