JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh, Attacked In Campus Violence, To Contest Bengal Polls On CPI(M) Ticket

CPI(M) has fielded young candidates from its student and youth wings, pinning hopes on budding leaders to take on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the much-awaited Bengal Assembly polls.

Kolkata: Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) President and a member of the Students' Federation of India Aishe Ghosh will contest the high-decibel West Bengal Assembly election as a CPI (M) candidate. With this announcement, Aishe becomes the first sitting President of JNUSU to contest an assembly election.

As per report, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has given Aishe the Jamuria seat to contest from. She will be backed by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, which is spearheading the farmers' protest against the three contentious agri laws passed by the Centre last year. 

"Will be contesting from Jamuria Legislative Assembly Seat as candidate of the CPI(M) ,supported by the Sanyukt Morcha.Requesting all of your support," Aishe tweeted this morning.

It is being said that CPI(M) has fielded young candidates from its student and youth wings, pinning hopes on budding leaders to take on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the much-awaited Bengal Assembly polls.

Aishe gained prominence after receiving injuries on her head during JNU students' protest against fee hike last year.

The visuals of Aishe with blood streaming down her head became cover image of JNU violence, where close to 70 people (with their faces masked) entered the university campus with sledgehammers, iron rods and other such weapons, and assaulted students and teachers.

The CPI(M) had won only 26 out of 294 legislative seats in the 2016 West Bengal assembly polls and was completely wiped out in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
