New Delhi: At least five policemen and two security guards were killed after militants attacked a cash van outside Jammu and Kashmir bank's Kulgam branch in south Kashmir.


The J&K bank vehicle bearing JK 01P 9793 number plate was carrying cash from Nihama to Kulgam when it was attacked by 5-6 militants near Pombai Kakran agricultural university orchard resulting into the death of 5 police personnel and 2 bank security guards.

The militants decamped with five SLR rifles and around Rs 50 lakh in cash.

A policeman was seriously injured in the attack. He is said to be in a critical condition in hospital.

The cops and the bank officials were killed by the terrorists after dragging them out of their vehicle, DIG south Kashmir S P Pani told newsagency PTI.

He said further details of the incident were awaited.

Earlier in the day, two Indian jawans were killed and mutilated by Pakistan Army’s Border Action Team following a ceasefire violation along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector’s Poonch district.
