Jharkhand assembly election results 2019: With early trends showing the Congress & Jharkhand Mukti Morcha edging past Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress spokesperson Pranav Jha on Monday said that the voters of the eastern state have rejected the saffron party. Jha exuded confidence of forming government in the state and claimed that BJP is losing because of its anti-people policies.
During the course of elections, Jha had pilloried the the BJP for having no answers for questions on employemt and slow economic growth.
As per initial trends, the BJP is leading in 30 seats and Congress-JMM-RJD alliance was ahead in 40 seats. The AJSU and the JVM are leading in four and two seats respectively. If the trends fructify, the JVM and the AJSU can emerge the kingmakers even as reports have come in of JMM chief Hemant Soren dialing Babulal Marandi and Sudesh Mahato.
There are also reports of BJP getting touch with JVM-P president Babulal Marandi and the AJSU for a possible tie up if the results throw a hung assembly.
With results in their favour, Congress have begun distributing sweets at the party head quarters in the national capital.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raghubar Das is leading from Jamshedpur East seat, while AJSU president Sudesh Mahto is leading from Silli and JVM-P president Babulkal Marandi is ahead on Dhanwar seat. Opposition's chief ministerial candidate Hemant Soren is leading from both - Dumka and Barhet assembly seats.
The counting of votes began at 8 a.m. in all the 24 district headquarters. Trends and leads are currently underway.
In 2014, the BJP and AJSU alliance fetched 42 seats, but Sudesh Mahto, who led the AJSU in the polls, decided to contest this election solo after talks on seat agreement foundered with the saffron party.
