“As per laid down procedure, the comments/views of agencies concerned have been sought.  Further action will be taken after the comments/views are received from all the agencies concerned,” he added.

The Union Home Ministry’s approval is required for the name changing process. The development comes after Union Home Ministry gave its consent to the change of name of any place or station after taking no-objections from the Ministry of Railways, Department of Posts and Survey of India.

An executive order is required to rename any village, town, city or a station, while amendment of the Constitution with majority in Parliament is needed for changing the name of a state.
