The Jhansi railway station, which is a major railway junction in the city of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region, will be renamed as Veerangana Lakshmi Bai railway station. The Centre has sought an expeditious reply in this regard from the Uttar Pradesh Government.


The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has written a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Government stating there has been a suggestion to rename the Jhansi railway station as Veerangana Lakshmi Bai railway station.


The letter was written by Lalita T. Hedaoo, Under Secretary in the MHA, states that communiqué was sent to the state government earlier too but there has been no response yet.

The letter addressed to Bhagwan Swaroop, Secretary, Government of Uttar Pradesh, states that a first letter was sent on August 13, 2020, and subsequent reminders were sent dated October 1, 2020, and January 14, 2021.


Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Government had cleared changing the name of the Dandupur railway station, located between Pratapgarh Badshahpur on the Varanasi railway section, as Maa Barahi Devi Dham.

This follows last year’s decision to rename four railway stations in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj in a move aimed at reviving the ancient city’s identity.
