New Delhi: Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh has passed away at the age of 82, on Sunday. Many political leaders of the country have taken to Twitter to condole his demise. ALSO READ | Former Cabinet Minister Jaswant Singh Passes Away, PM Modi Expresses Grief


In a series of tweets, PM Narendra Modi honored the former union minister who was also a retired army officer. The Prime Minister honoured him for serving the nation diligently, first as a soldier and later during his long association with politics.


"Jaswant Singh Ji will be remembered for his unique perspective on matters of politics and society. He also contributed to the strengthening of the BJP," the PM added in another tweet.


Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who was the first to confirm the news of his passing away, wrote, "Deeply pained by the passing away of veteran BJP leader & former Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh ji. He served the nation in several capacities including the charge of Raksha Mantri".


Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal honoured Singh for working for the country all his life.


Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa remembered the former union minister for serving the centre in various capacities including Ministries of Finance, Defence & External Affairs.


External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar wrote about Jaswant Singh's contribution in fashioning a foreign policy for a nuclear India.


Union Cabinet Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Irani wrote, "Pained with the passing away of Jaswant Singh ji, a stalwart who served our Nation diligently; be it politics or the armed forces".


Jaswant Singh was from Jodhpur and had served as India's foreign minister, defense minister and finance minister. In the 1950s and 60s, he was an officer in the Indian Army but he resigned to become a part of politics.
