New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the beneficiaries of the Jan Aushadhi Yojana today on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas via video conferencing. The theme of the event was ‘Jan Aushadhi-Jan Upyogi’.
The interaction was followed by an address by the Prime Minister on the occasion of the conclusion of Jan Aushadhi week.
Ahead of the event, PM Modi tweeted, “At 12:30 PM today, will be joining a programme to mark the Jan Aushadhi Diwas. I look forward to interacting with the Jan Aushadhi Kendra owners and beneficiaries of the scheme which has brought an affordable medicines revolution.”
During his address, he said that the Jan Aushadhi Yojana is helping people in saving medical costs and that money can be used in other necessities of life. “Money saved is money earned,” he said.
He said that more than Rs 800 crore worth of medicine has been sold till now which has saved around Rs 13,000 crores for the common people.
He also talked about the benefits of this scheme for women as they can buy sanitary napkins at a cost of Re 1. He added that the sale of 21 crore sanitary napkins is proof of the benefits of the scheme.
PM Modi also said that his government has taken a decision recently that the Private medical colleges in the country will have to charge the fees equivalent to government colleges for half of the seats so that the lower-income groups can also afford medical education.
Added to that, all the colleges will also provide education in local languages to make sure that students from every group get a chance to study medicine.
Jan Aushadhi week was being celebrated since March 1 to generate awareness about the usage of generic medicines and the benefits of Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna.
During this week, many events like Jan Aushadhi Sankalp Yatra, Matri Shakti Samman, Jan Aushadhi Bal Mitra, Jan Aushadhi Jan Jagran Abhiyan, Aao Jan Aushadhi Mitra Baney, and Jan Aushadhi Jan Arogya Mela have been organised.
As per a press release by the PMO, under the Jan Aushady scheme, now there are more than 8,600 Jan Aushadhi stores in the country.
