New Delhi: Officials claimed a head constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was murdered and an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was injured on Monday after militants opened fire on them in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama area, news agency PTI reported.
They said that the ultras shot Head Constable Surinder Singh and ASI Devraj at a tea stand in Kakapora, Pulwama.
The two were brought to a hospital, where Singh was pronounced dead on arrival, according to authorities.
In the Valley, militants have increased attacks on security troops and civilians in the last three weeks. This was the month's eighth attack.
Kashmir University PhD Scholar Arrested For Article Published In 2011
Earlier, a PhD scholar from Kashmir University was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) over a “highly provocative and seditious” article in an online magazine, said an official, reported by news agency PTI.
Abdul Aala Fazili was arrested from his Humhama residence as the SIA conducted searches at several locations in the city as part of its crackdown on terror and anti-national networks, the official said.
The scholar was arrested for his write-up published in the year 2011 by online magazine The Kashmir Walla, reported the Hindu.
Security Forces Foil Terror Plot In Jammu-Kashmir's Rajouri
On April 16, Jammu & Kashmir Police found a suspicious object lying alongside the road in Rajouri which was identified as an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED).
An official statement by the Rajouri police informed that the security forces foiled a terror plot by recovering the IED on Rajouri Gurdan road, news agency ANI reported.
"On this, Jammu and Kashmir police teams from Army, Special Operation Group of Police, and teams of the Army launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation in the area in the early morning hours Saturday," Rajouri Police stated.
