In its ongoing efforts to combat anti-national elements exploiting social media to fuel unrest, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police conducted raids in the Natipora area of Srinagar on Friday in connection with an investigation into unlawful activities. The raids are part of the police's larger operation to dismantle networks spreading fabricated and malicious narratives aimed at provoking violence and disrupting public order.
In an official handout, the police confirmed that the raid was linked to the ongoing investigation of FIR No. 65/2024, under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act) at PS Shergarhi. The operation is focused on individuals suspected of manufacturing and disseminating false and twisted information, intended to incite unlawful activities.
A police spokesman said that the investigation involves certain individuals, who, allegedly at the behest of adversaries and in criminal conspiracy, have been involved in spreading misinformation. The aim, according to the police, is to provoke violence and create social unrest.
Following search warrants obtained from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court, Srinagar Police conducted a raid at the residence of Abdul Hamid Parry, son of Gulam Mohammad Parry, from Budshah Nagar, Natipora. During the operation, incriminating materials and electronic devices were seized. Police also revealed that additional searches would be conducted at the residences of other suspects linked to the malicious campaign.

Srinagar Police Raids 2 Key Suspects Accused Of Orchestrating Unlawful Narrative
Additionally, last week, Srinagar Police carried out raids in Batmaloo and HMT areas, targeting two key suspects: Obais Riyaz Dar, son of Riyaz Ahmad Dar from Bonpora Batmaloo, and Sahil Ah Bhat, son of Noor Mohammad from HMT Zainakot. Both individuals are believed to be central figures in orchestrating the unlawful narrative, police said.
J&K Police have urged the public, particularly the youth, to exercise caution and responsibility when using social media platforms. Citizens have been reminded not to share or upload content that spreads false, inciteful narratives that could lead others to engage in acts of terror.
Further raids are planned as part of the investigation, with additional suspects identified in connection with the case. The police's actions form part of a broader effort to combat the misuse of social media to spread harmful, misleading information that poses a threat to public safety and order.
In its statement, the J&K Police also urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in ensuring that such divisive and harmful narratives do not spread.
