Grenades, Pistols, Magazines Found In Package Suspected To Be Dropped By Drone In J-K's Samba

Jammu-Kashmir News: The package found near the railway line in Rakh Barotiya, contained three China-made pistols and grenades among other arms.

Jammu Police on Monday recovered a cache of arms and explosive materials from a package suspected to have been airdropped by a drone from across the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district

The package found at Vijaypur contained three pistols, four bombs, six magazines, and 48 rounds in it.

"Today at 7:15 am, information was received at Vijaipur police station that some suspicious object has been found in Rakh Barotiya. After the information, the police reached the spot. The bomb disposal team also reached the spot. The suspicious item was examined. Police found three pistols, four bombs, six magazines, and 48 rounds in it. FIR has been registered, investigation is on," Surinder Choudhary, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samba said.

According to news agency PTI, the police suspect that the package was dropped by a drone from across the border.

ASP Choudhary said, "...It looks like the weapons consignment has been dropped by drone (from across the International Border).

"...it had a box and a long string of plastic measuring 50 metres… It looks like (air) dropping," he added.

The senior police official stated that the exact detail can be ascertained only after an investigation.

Several incidents of weapons, narcotics, cash and explosive materials being airdropped by drones suspected to be from across the international border have come to light in the Union Territory's Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts in recent months.

According to security officials, Pakistan-based terror groups use drones to smuggle arms and narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir.

BSF Firing Pushes Back Suspected Pak Drone Spotted Along IB In Jammu

Last week, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday said its troops opened fire at a suspected Pakistani drone along the International Border in Jammu, forcing it to retreat.

A massive search operation was launched to ensure no weapons or narcotics were airdropped by the drone, a BSF spokesperson said, as per PTI.

"A blinking light (of a suspected drone) was observed around 12:15 am (Saturday) on the IB in the night in the general area of Ramgarh. Alert troops fired towards the blinking light due to which it (drone) was forced to return," he said.

The BSF had fired at a Pakistani drone at the Chamliyal border post in Samba district on March 22, preventing it from flying into India.
