An improvised explosive device was recovered on Srinagar-Baramulla highway at Lawaypora, said the Chinar Corps in a post on X. Earlier in the day, news agency ANI reported that a mysterious object was found on th stretch of the road after which security forces and Bomb Disposal Squad arrived at the site. 


Chinar Corps of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police thwarted a potential attack bid as they destroyed the IED. 


"IED recovered at Lawaypora, on the Srinagar - Baramulla Highway. Chinar Corps and J&K Police averted a major terror incident today by recovering & in-situ destroying an IED at Lawaypora on the Srinagar-Baramulla Highway," said the Chinar Corps on X. 






The traffic was restored on the highway after it was suspended temporarily after a gas cylinder was detected by the roadside at Lawaypora on the busy highway during routine patrolling by security forces in the morning, officials said as per a PTI report. 


On Tuesday, security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district recovered two pressure improvised explosive devices planted by Naxalites on a road taking the total number of recovered IEDs to 180 this year.

"Two IEDs, weighing 5 kg each, were detected on Monday on Palnar-Cherpal villages road when a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and district police's Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was out for patrolling," a police official said according to PTI.


The explosives were attached to pressure switches, said th officer, adding that the BDS later neutralised the explosives averting a major tragedy.
