Srinagar: Amid bird flu scare, several crows were found dead mysteriously in Border town of Karnah in north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Saturday, triggering a panic in the area.


Officials said that about half a dozen crows were found dead in Suliman Tanghdar and Nachain village of Karnah this morning. Some locals spotted dead crows and informed the Police and animal husbandry department. Dead crows were also spotted on other areas of the border district as well.



Block veterinary officer (BVO) Karnah Dr. Naseer Ahmad  said they have received information about the death of crows in Suliman and Nachian village and a Team of the departments visited the spot.


He said that the samples have been collected and the carcasses have been burnt.He said that the samples have been sent for testing.

 
“The birds may have died due to the intense cold wave. However, not taking any chances, samples have been sent for testing to check if they died due to bird flu,” he said.

 

Earlier authorities have declared birdflu in four districts of South Kashmir, after dead crows were found in Kulgam. Positive cases have been found in Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama as well. However, no case of birdflu infection has been discovered in the poultry till now.
