New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir police killed two militants in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Awantipora on Tuesday. According to Kashmir Zone Police, an encounter broke out between security forces and militants in the Rajpora area of Awantipora on Monday evening.
On Tuesday morning, two militants were neutralised and incriminating material including AK 47 was recovered from them. “#AwantiporaEncounterUpdate: 02 #terrorists killed. #Incriminating materials including 02 AK 47 rifles recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” the Kashmir police tweeted.
Those killed have been identified as Shahid Rather, a resident of Trak, and Umar Yusuf, a resident of Shopian.
Shahid was involved in the killing of a woman named Shakeela of Aripal and a government employee Javid Ahmed of Lurgam Tral, said Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir.
“Killed #terrorists identified as Shahid Rather of #Tral & Umar Yousuf of #Shopian. Besides other #terror crimes, #terrorist Shahid was involved in the killing of a woman Mst Shakeela of Aripal & a govt employee/ peon Javid Ahmed of Lurgam Tral,” said IGP Kumar.
The Kashmir police are still investigating the matter as it assures that more details will follow.
The Awantipora encounter comes a day after a similar encounter took place in the Gundipora area of Pulwama on Sunday evening. Two militants were killed in this encounter as well. The police also recovered two AK 47 rifles from the militants. However, the identity of the militants has not been ensured as of yet.
