Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Rajouri today to review the situation on the ground. The Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other top officers are already supervising the anti-terrorist operation.
This is the army's second significant loss in the last two weeks. Five soldiers were killed on April 20 when an army truck carrying them was ambushed by terrorists near Bhata Durian in Poonch. After killing the soldiers, the terrorists set fire to the truck and fled with the weapons of the fallen soldiers.
Following the attack, the Poonch-Rajouri region was subjected to a massive manhunt. According to police, there are about a dozen heavily armed terrorists in the area.
During a massive crackdown, police detained over 200 people for questioning and arrested at least six people for assisting terrorists responsible for the army truck attack.
