A man was arrested and a huge quantity of arms, ammunition, and narcotics were recovered from his possession in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, news agency ANI reported on Sunday citing police statements. 






According to a report by the news agency PTI, the officials said that the illicit substance and weapons were intended for a militant group in the Valley.


Security personnel conducted a search operation in the Chatkadi area of Karnah, Kupwara, based on specific information that a significant consignment of arms, ammo, and drugs had been smuggled in by two people there, a police officer said, as per the report. 


He said that a resident of Chatkadi named Umar Aziz was arrested during the operation, as stated in the report.


As per the report, he confessed after being questioned for a long time, said the official, that he and his associate had received a shipment of weapons, ammo, and drugs. 


He continued, describing the recovery of a significant amount of drugs, weapons, and ammunition from Garangnard Chatkadi as a major victory in the fight against terrorism, the report said.


Five pistols, ten pistol magazines, 77 pistol rounds, a pistol cleaning rod, a pistol user manual, four hand grenades, and ten packages of a substance similar to heroin totaling 9.450 kg are among the recovered items, the report stated quoting a senior officer concerned with the matter. 


As per the report, a case has been reported, and an investigation has begun.


According to the information provided, the shipment was intended for The Resistance Front, a subset of the banned terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), the report said.
