Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday apprehended three terrorist associates associated with the proscribed terror outfit 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) in the Natipora area of Srinagar. The operation was conducted by a small team of the "special operations group" targeting TRF, an offshoot of the proscribed terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a select team of Srinagar police set up a checkpoint at Harnabal Natipora, leading to the arrest of three terrorist associates associated with the banned terrorist outfit TRF.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Imran Ahmad Najar, a resident of Bulbul Bagh Baramulla; Waseem Ahmad Matta, hailing from Qamarwari Srinagar; and Wakeel Ahmad Bhat from Pazalpora Bijbehara.
The suspects were arrested with three hand grenades, ten pistol rounds, twenty-five AK-47 rounds, and other incriminating materials.
Wakeel Ahmad Bhat, in particular, was previously an active terrorist linked to the proscribed terrorist organisation Islamic State-Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) and had been detained for two years. He was recently released on bail from Central Jail.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the trio had acquired explosive substances and ammunition from active TRF terrorists, intending to carry out terrorist activities within Srinagar city.
The prompt action by the security forces averted a potential terror threat. Following the arrests, a case with FIR number 46/23 under section 3/4 of the Explosive Act, 7/25 of the Arms Act, and 18, 23, 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was registered at Police Station Chanapora. An investigation into the matter has been initiated to further delve into the activities of the terrorist associates and their links with the TRF.
