In his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the union territory for two days on June 20 and 21. During his visit, the PM will lead this year's International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21 in Srinagar and also unveil 84 major developmental projects, valued at more than Rs 1500 crore.


At around 6:00 PM on June 20, PM Modi will participate in 'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K' event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar. While there, he will lay the foundation stone of several development projects in the union territory. PM Modi will also launch Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.


The theme of the 10th International Day of Yoga this year is 'Yoga for Self and Society,' the event for which will be held at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Sriagar. During the event on June 21, PM Modi will address the gathering and also take part in a yoga session thereafter. 


What Is 'Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K' Event?


During the event, PM Modi will inspect stalls and interact with J&K's Young Achivers. The event is a significant moment for the territory as it is aimed at "showcasing progress and providing inspiration to young achievers."


"Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate 84 Major developmental projects valued at more than Rs. 1,500 crore," the statement read.


The inaugurations will include projects related to water supply schemes, road infrastructure, and infrastructure in higher education among others. 


Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for projects including development of Industrial Estates, improvement of the Chenani-Patnitop-Nashri Section, and construction of six Government Degree Colleges.

PM To Launch Competitiveness Improvement Projects


PM Modi will also launch the Competitiveness Improvement in Agriculture & Allied Sectors (JKCIP) Project worth Rs. 1,800 crore.


The JKCIP project will be implemented across 20 districts of J&K in 90 blocks, with an outreach of 3,00,000 households covering 15 lakh beneficiaries, the statement read.


PM Modi will distribute appointment letters to over 2,000 persons who were appointed in government service.


According to PMO's statement, "the foundation stone laying/inauguration and launch of these projects will empower the youth and upgrade the infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir."


International Day Of Yoga


The theme for this year's "Yoga for Self and Society" underlines its dual role in fostering societal and individual well being. It is aimed at encouraging participation from the grassroot levels and its spread in rural areas.


"This year's event underscores Yoga's profound impact on young minds and bodies. The celebration aims to unite thousands in the practice of Yoga, promoting health and wellness on a global scale," the statement read.


Since 2015, PM Modi has led celebrations for the International Day of Yoga at several iconic locations. These include Kartavya Path in Delhi, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Ranchi, Mysuru, Lucknow, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
