Two terrorists were killed in a midnight encounter by security forces under "Operation Gugaldhar" in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara, the Army said on Saturday. "War-like stores have been recovered. A search of the area is underway and Operation is in progress," the army added.
Security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control on Friday. The Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said troops spotted suspicious activity in Gugaldhar and challenged the intruders, leading to an exchange of firing. The operation is still on and is being led by a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the army, it said.
Last week, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. Head Constable Bashir Ahmed also lost his life in the exchange of fire, while two personnel were injured, a senior office said.
Additional Director General of Police, Jammu, Anand Jain had said the forces got the information about the presence of the terrorists on Saturday. "After that, an operation was launched with the security forces...Head constable Bashir Ahmed has lost his life in the exchange of fire. Two other personnel have been injured and they are stable...The information was that there were 3-4 terrorists present in this area. Search operations are underway," he had said.
The assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in three phases starting September 18.
