New Delhi: Four Army personnel were killed while three others were injured when armed terrorists attacked two military vehicles in the Thanamandi area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector on Thursday. Indian Army troops also retaliated immediately, news agency ANI reported.

The incident took place during a joint operation that was launched against the terrorists last evening. The operations are taking place in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area.

"At approximately 3:45 PM on December 21, two army vehicles carrying troops were moving to the operational site, which were fired upon by the terrorist. The fire was immediately retaliated upon by oir troops," Army officials said, as per reports.

The anti-terror operation was underway in the Dera ki Gali area.

“A joint operation was launched in the general area of DKG last night based on hard intelligence. Contact was established this evening and an encounter is in progress,” a defence spokesperson said.

Notably, the stretch between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, where the incident took place, is a densely forested region. It leads to Chamrer and Bhata Dhurian forests where five soldiers were killed in an ambush on an Army vehicle on April 20 earlier this year.

Earlier in May, five Army personnel were killed and a Major-rank officer was injured in this region during an anti-terror operation.
