New Delhi: A new CCTV footage showing Delhi police’s alleged crackdown on Jamia Millia Islamia students in university’s library has emerged of late on social media.

The video shared from the Twitter handle of Jamia Coordination Committee, shows policemen in riot gear, barging into the hall and using lathis on the students who were studying.

The tweet claims that the footage is of the old reading hall, first floor – MA/ M Phil section on December 15.

The video shows police beating up the students as they tried to flee.

The Jamia Coordination Committee (JCC) is a group comprising students and alumni of the varsity.

Delhi Police has, however, not yet confirmed the authenticity of the video and has said that the video is being probed. It said the case has already been transferred to the Crime Branch.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also shared the video and slammed the Delhi Police over the incident.

“See how the Delhi Police is indiscriminately beating students who were studying. A boy is showing the book but the policeman is hitting him with stick. The Home Minister and Delhi Police officials lied that they had not beaten anyone by entering the library,” Priyanka tweeted in Hindi.

On December 15, the university had turned into a battlefield as police entered the campus and also used force, following protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which led to violence and arson in which four DTC buses, 100 private vehicles and 10 police bikes were damaged.
