New Delhi: In the wake of the incident of violence during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Delhi on Saturday, the police in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar were put on high alert, officials said.
According to a report by news agency PTI, on the directions of Commissioner Alok Singh, the police personnel carried out patrolling and foot marches in all three police zones - Noida, Central Noida and Greater Noida.
"The patrolling was held in crowded areas and markets, near shopping malls, metro stations and areas having mixed populations. Senior rank officers supervised the patrolling and the law and order situation is being monitored continuously," PTI quoted the police as saying in a statement.
Apart from patrolling, the police also reviewed the situation in the areas falling on the route of a proposed religious rally on Sunday. Officials have also been keeping an eye on the history-sheeters and anti-social elements, officials said.
In a bid to avert any unfortunate incident, the police have urged the public to stay cautious and alert the local policemen immediately in case they come to know of any clash or ruckus in their area.
Notably, violence erupted during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area in Delhi on Saturday, police said.
According to officials, several vehicles have been vandalised by the miscreants and police personnel were injured in the incident.
According to reports, around 200 Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed along with Delhi Police to control the situation.
Condemning the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said stringent action should be taken against those found guilty.
