New Delhi: Even as fresh trouble erupted in Delhi's Jahangirpuri on Monday, where bricks were allegedly thrown at a police team probing the violence case, Delhi Police called it a "minor, one-off incident".
The police said media reports of fresh stone pelting in Jahangirpuri was an "exaggeration" and one person had been detained for the incident, ANI reported.
“The recent media report of fresh stone pelting is an exaggeration of facts. It was a minor, one-off incident. Legal action is being taken. One person has been detained,” the police said.
Two days after a clash took place between two groups in Jahangirpuri’s C block during a Shobha Yatra, a Delhi Police Crime Branch team went to the area on Monday to question the relatives of a suspect. When the police team arrived, some people allegedly hurled bricks at them.
Police have arrested as many as 21 people in connection with the clash on Saturday and apprehended two juveniles. Since the violence broke out, police have increased security arrangements in the area.
On Monday morning, the Delhi police commissioner Rakesh Asthana said that they are monitoring social media in order to curb the misinformation regarding the incident and that action would be taken against the culprits.
"Some people are trying to disturb peace through social media posts. We are monitoring social media closely, and legal action will be taken against those who are found spreading misinformation. The public should not pay heed to rumours," Asthana had said.
"Action will be taken against any person found guilty irrespective of their class, creed, community, and religion," he added.
Asthana also talked about the investigation of the case saying that the CCTV footage on basis of which the police made the initial arrests are being analysed currently.
"Analysis of CCTV footage and digital media is being done. Forensic Science Laboratory teams have visited the scene of crime today," he said.
On Saturday evening, violence broke out between two groups in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area during a Hanuman Jayanti procession. It left eight policemen and one other person injured before the police could control the situation.
