In response to the ongoing property dispute between her son Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and daughter Y. S. Sharmila, Y. S. Vijayamma, the wife of late former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), has issued an open letter denying claims that her husband had divided the family assets between their children during his lifetime.

Addressing admirers of YSR, Vijayamma expressed her distress over the statements made by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders Y. V. Subba Reddy and V. Vijaya Sai Reddy, who claimed that the family assets were split between Jagan and Sharmila while YSR was still alive. She clarified that while YSR had given certain assets to both his son and daughter as they were growing up, this was not an official division of property.

Vijayamma accused Vijaya Sai Reddy, the family auditor, and Subba Reddy, who signed the MoU as a witness, of spreading misinformation. She emphasized that YSR's intention was to ensure that all family assets would be equally distributed among his four grandchildren.

Reiterating her daughter Sharmila’s stance, Vijayamma stated that although Jagan’s efforts had increased the value of the assets, the properties were family-owned. She revealed that Jagan had given Sharmila a dividend share worth Rs 200 crore, according to a 60:40 split outlined in a MoU. Before the MoU, Sharmila had an equal share, as per YSR's wishes.

Vijayamma recounted an incident from 2019, two months after Jagan became Chief Minister, when he proposed an asset distribution plan during a family visit to Israel. According to her, the MoU designated specific properties to each sibling, but Sharmila's share of the properties that were not attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), including Saraswati Power and the Yelahanka property, was not transferred despite verbal and written assurances from Jagan. The properties under ED attachment, such as shares in Bharati Cements, Sakshi Media, and their father's home, are expected to be transferred to Sharmila after ongoing court cases are resolved.

Defending her daughter's contributions, Vijayamma mentioned that Sharmila had devoted herself to supporting Jagan politically and played a significant role in his ascent to power.
