New Delhi: The security forces gunned down three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in an encounter in Pahoo area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday.

“#PulwamaEncounterUpdate: 01 more #terrorist killed (Total 03), affiliated with #proscribed #terror outfit LeT. Search #operation in progress. Further details shall follow.@JmuKmrPolice,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

There were earlier reports that two LeT terrorists had been killed in the encounter.

This is the third encounter in the Kashmir Valley in three days.

Earlier, six terrorists were gunned down in two separate encounters in Jammu Kashmir ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

In tune with the same, the security was beefed up in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday as Prime Minister Modi visited the Union Territory to address panchayats on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Diwas.

Earlier on Saturday, two Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists -- identified as Sultan Pathan and Zabiullah -- from Pakistan were killed in an encounter that broke out in the Mirhama area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam.

This took place as the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam in south Kashmir after receiving inputs about the presence of militants there, new agency PTI reported a police official as saying.

The official added that the search operation turned into an encounter after the hiding militants fired at the security forces.

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh had earlier said the two terrorists were part of a suicide squad of Pakistan-based JeM and their infiltration was suspected to be a “big conspiracy” to sabotage the Prime Minister’s visit.
