Terrorists shot and killed a police officer inside his residence in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama area on Saturday, officials said, news agency PTI reported.


The attack on Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad Mir occurred on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in Samboora in the Pampore region, they claimed.


"Dead body of Farooq Ah Mir of Samboora Si(M) posted in IRP 23 BN was found in paddy fields near his home. Preliminary investigation reveals that he had left his home for work in his paddy fields last evening,where he was shot dead by terrorists using a pistol," Kashmir Police Zone tweeted.






Mir was assigned to the IRP 23rd Battalion at CTC Lethpora, according to authorities.


2 Militants Killed In Encounter In Shopian District


Earlier on Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir police killed two militants associated with the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba in an encounter, the police said. The encounter took place late Tuesday night in the Kanjiular area of Shopian in South Kashmir. The police also recovered incriminating materials from the militants, including arms and ammunition, one AK 47, and a pistol. 


As per the police report, one of the militants was identified as Tufail Ganai. And the other one was identified as Jan Mohd Lone who was allegedly involved in the killing of Bank Manager Vijay Kumar, said Inspector General of Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar.
