New Delhi: Today, the J&K police arrested three militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba based on specific information regarding the movement of three suspected individuals from Wadoora Bala to Sonarwain bridge, who were likely to carry out an attack on the security forces.


A joint Naka was established by 22 RR, Sopore Police, and 179 Bn CRPF at Sonarwain bridge near Village Wadoora Bala falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Bomai in Sopore.


During checking at Naka it was observed that three persons were moving towards Naka in suspicious conditions. The Naka party observed their suspicious body language and subsequently asked them to stop.


However, suspected individuals tried to flee from the spot, taking cover of darkness but, were nabbed by alert and vigilant troops.


The troops assessed the situation and displayed extreme restraint and fire control in not opening fire, keeping in mind the darkness and civilians in the proximity of the area, to avoid any civilian casualty. Upon their search, three Pistols, three Magazines, 22 rounds of Pistols, a Grenade, and Rs 79,800 cash were recovered from their possession.


During preliminary investigation, they revealed their identity as Tufail Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Majeed Mir who is a resident of Gund Mohalla, Barat Kalan, Owais Ahmad Mir, son of Gh Hassan Mir who is a resident of Mir Mohalla, Barat Kalan, and Shabir Ahmad Wagay, son of Nazir Ahmad Wagey who is a resident of Masjid Mohalla, Pethabug.


The preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested militants are affiliated to LeT. Accordingly in this regard, a case has been registered at Police Station, Bomai under relevant sections of law and further investigation is going on. The alertness and proactiveness of the security forces averted a big tragedy planned to hamper the prevailing peace in the valley.
