J&K News: A Pakistani intruder has been shot dead as the troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) foiled an infiltration bid on the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district. The infiltrator was spotted moving into Indian territory near the Khora post late Wednesday, officials said on Thursday.
BSF said that an infiltration bid was foiled in the Samba district of Jammu division late Wednesday evening in which one Pakistani intruder was killed.
“In the intervening night of 31 July/01 Aug 2024, the vigilant BSF troops observed a suspicious movement across the IB in the Samba border area. An intruder was observed approaching toward the BSF fence, the alert troops neutralised the intruder & thwarted the infiltration attempt,” the BSF said, as quoted by news agency IANS.
The intruder paid no heed to the warnings from BSF personnel and was subsequently fired upon, news agency PTI reported, citing officials. Senior BSF and police officials reached the area of incident, and efforts to retrieve the body began.
According to IANS, there is no report so far about the recovery of any weapon from the intruder and whether the infiltration bid was made by just one intruder or a group of infiltrators.
IG BSF, Jammu Frontier, DK Boora said, "Around 10:15 PM yesterday, our forward duty points have seen some movement where a person was trying to intrude through IB from Pakistan side. When he entered our territory, he got challenged, when he tried to flee, he got neutralised by our troops. I think this attempt was made to probe to act further if they have got some gap... It was a lesson that no one can step into India's territory with an ill-intention, if someone dares so, he will meet a similar fate."
Following reports that a group of 40-50 foreign mercenaries were carrying out these attacks, the Army has deployed over 4,000 highly trained soldiers drawn from the elite commando force and those trained in mountain warfare in Poonch, Rajouri, Did, Kathua, Reasi and Udhampur districts of Jammu division, as reported by IANS.
The Intelligence-based cordon and search operations are carried out in these districts by the security forces almost on a daily basis to hunt down the hiding terrorists.
